Advertising Week Europe opened its doors for the third time yesterday. Marketing Week took a look at the trends that are set to dominate discussions at the event in London throughout the week.

Some of the trends that rose from Marketing Week’s discussions with industry professionals that will be speaking at the event were:

  • How digital builds brands – Tracy Yaverbaun, head of brand development EMEA for Instagram says she would like to see brands and marketers re-engage with their creative instincts and will be talking about Instagram’s new business which launched in September 2014
  • The Content Economy – Lisa Tookey, commercial director at the Jamie Oliver Group, will be speaking at Advertising Week about creating content that people want to read, share and engage with
  • Traditional media making a comeback – The topic of many discussions this week will be about the importance of traditional media, and how the lines are becoming blurred between traditional media and digital
  • Taming technology – One trend outlined to Marketing Week was that of “safety in numbers” when it comes to tackling new technology. The programme notes for the Wired Innovation Roundtable at the end of day one state that “collaboration has never been more important” for brands

With Day One of the event over, visitors have already heard from speakers including Jill McDonald Chief Executive Officer at McDonald’s, Philippa Snare Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft and Hazel Kay Head of Marketing at Selfridges & Co. The event is also hosting seminars with celebrities including Katie Price, Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac and actress Salma Hayek.

With even more top speakers lined up for the rest of the event, it’s set to be a fantastic week.
